Critiques

Beautiful job... especially your use of light and shadow. It almost makes me think "Dr. Seuss alt-art" somehow. I love the clouds swirl...

I'm a programming geek with an interest in learning to draw when real life and my more important hobbies (like learning to write fiction) aren't monopolizing my time. (Which is almost always)

I also occasionally dabble in photography... though I usually forget to bring my camera when it'd be useful.
Interests
Hello to anyone who reads this.

For the record, the main purpose of my deviantART account is to take advantage of the favorites and deviantWatch systems. My art is program code (though I'd like to learn to draw more than diagrams some day) and I'm not much of a forum-goer.

I'm not the type to do journal-style blogging and I'll just leave my status on "busy" all the time, but feel free to contact me if you're in the mood for intellectual discussion. The only reason I don't socialize more is because it's too much effort to seek out like minds in the physical world.

As for topics of discussion, what I enjoy most in fiction is character-driven storylines, good humor, and stuff that makes you think. Unsurprisingly, I love whodunnit mysteries and Monty Python.

As stated in the Interests list, I enjoy gender-bending stories. It never ceases to both amuse and amaze me that the human race is divided in such a paradoxical way, that gender and sex are both so wide, and so narrow a gap. I don't think I could ever get tired of watching the myriad ways in which (well written) gender-bending fiction exposes this.

My pet peeves include the boring monotonous gender roles you find in so much manga, the tendency for shonen manga to drop the interesting elements in favor of fighting, and the tendency for the world of manga to contain 1 female cross-dresser for every 10 male cross-dressers, and maybe 3 female gender-benders overall. (I know I have more interesting pet peeves, but I'm too tired to remember them)

Speaking of paradox, I also love inventive time-travel fiction. However, my disscussion-worthy interests are not limited to fiction, fan- or otherwise. As long as it's not the latest exploits of band/actor X, or an argument about sport Y, I probably have at least a passing interest.

I may expand this post later, but at the moment, it's past midnight, and I'm feeling rather fuzz-minded so I think I'll cut to the examples now.

For an example of the best time-travel paradox fanfic I have ever read, give Where I Came From a try. As for whodunnit works, I'm sadly deficient and I've only read Sherlock Holmes, read the Case Closed manga, and watched the Tantei Gakuen Q anime.

When it comes to comedy, I've read all of Douglas Adams' works, as well as the Monty Python productions and and Mel Brooks' stuff. I've also found a some really good fanfiction (eg. www.fanfiction.net/s/778579/1/ www.fanfiction.net/s/345691/1/ ). Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels are next on my agenda.

Circumstances have conspired against my getting a copy of William Gibson's Neuromancer, but I hope to remedy that within a few days of this post.

If you want to see some lists of things I consider worthwhile, I suggest checking out my blog, my fanfiction.net favorites list, and any other lists provided on my main website. My favorite webcomics list is sorely outdated, but I'm waiting for ComicAlert.com to automate the sharing of favorites lists.

Anyway, if you're looking for some entertainment, feel free to ask me. I pride myself on being a minor walking library and encyclopedia.

Oh, check out El Goonish Shive if you want a really nice character-driven gender-bending webcomic with some great humor.

Update: Since the user profile panel doesn't take links very well, I'm providing a link to the website of Audacious here.

Thanks for the fav on "Once Upon a Tower"!

I assume you got to me via "Less Wrong" (it may have been he sudden 134 views for today, the new chapter upload & your list on ff.net that hinted this to me).

*looks over your ff.net favs* - hey, have you read Uninvited Guests? Bleach fandom. Interesting sort of crack. Lots of lampshading, the laws of narration are invoked...

And look! The Red Dragons Order, among the authors you've read! I could hug you now!

*hugs* Her "Order of the Phoenix" series is nice, too (the newer ones).

*runs back to the list* Inuyasha, too? RosieB's Beside You In Time is a jewel. It has brilliant writing and many historical references.

Errrm... Ok. I'll run off now, before I scare you. Bookmarking your favs, just so you know.

(for the record, what caught my eye was the "Introduction. Hello to anyone who reads this." part of your journal - then I ran into the ff.net link and enthused)

Thanks again for the fav! (and don't mind my jumping about if you don't want to mind it)

Glad you liked my list and thanks for the links.

I'd tell you whether I've read them, but I can't for the same reason I haven't been on dA in at least a month. (I'm in the middle of rewriting the custom tool I use to keep track of what I've read. The intent being to put up a better alternative to Fanfiction.net faves lists at FicFan.org)

I did indeed find you via Less Wrong and don't worry. I don't scare easily as long as I have a computer between me and the other person. :P

As for my list, keep in mind that once I've finished my custom tool, I'll probably fave even more authors. As is, I've had to limit my faves authors so people only get on the list once I've read everything on their profile. (It'd be hard for me to keep track of what I hadn't read otherwise)
